National Canadian Film Day 150

 

Join Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter and Reel Canada for National Canadian Film Day 150, for a film screening of Sundance award-winning, Julia Kwan’s “Everything Will Be” which explores the landscapes of change and gentrification in Vancouver’s Chinatown.

Date: Wednesday April 19, 2017

Time: 6:15pm – 8:30pm

Location: Dorset Park Community Hub (1911 Kennedy Road)

Movie screening to be followed by a discussion with renowned author, Arlene Chan and organizers from the Chinatown Action Group 華埠行動小組 who have been organizing the Chinese working class community and working with other grassroots groups against gentrification and displacement in Vancouver’s Chinatown.

What is at stake in the crisis and change facing Chinatowns across North America? How do we understand the situation in Vancouver and what looms on the horizon for Toronto’s Chinatowns? What underlies these processes and what can we as communities do collectively and in solidarity with other communities, to ensure equitable, affordable and fair use of urban space?
