Katyuska Doleatto was born in Turin, Italy on Nov. 4, 1971. Her family moved to Ottawa when she was five, and at seventeen, she returned to Italy where she spent the next four years studying theatre and teaching English in Rome. In 1999 she attended Ryerson University where she received a B.F.A in Image Arts ˇV Photographic studies. Katyuska is fascinated with objects and there inherent nostalgic qualities. She is particularly interested in the idea of transformation; using natural and organic elements to create unique and extraordinary things. Her constructions are often narratives infused with dark and otherworldly qualities. Her core influences derive from traditional still life 16th Century painting, and historical photographic processes. Katyuskaˇ¦s work has been exhibited in a variety of venues in Toronto and Montreal including Sis Boom Bah Gallery and Hollinger Collins Art Contemporain. She has been featured in the Toronto Star and Now Magazine as well as receiving several awards for her Rebirth series. Since graduating from Ryerson University, she has been the recipient of an artistic development grant, enabling her to continue to create and prepare for upcoming exhibitions. Her work can be found in private collections in Canada, Europe and the US. Katyuska now resides and works in Toronto.
