Bridging Health Divides - A Collaborative Study
on Addressing Healthcare Disparities in Racialized Communities

Driving change, advocating for systemic reforms and culturally relevant healthcare for South Asian, Black-African-Caribbean, LatinX Hispanic, MENA, and East Asian communities, the Racialized Health Working Group worked together to promote equitable health outcomes. Racialized communities face common barriers in healthcare, from language barriers to financial challenges and deep-seated mistrust in healthcare institutions. This is why our collective decided to come together – by examining specific healthcare disparities and barriers, we could advocate for specific and universal solutions, including policy change.

Bridging Health Divides - CASSA Report title slide.jpg

Starting in September 2024, CCNCTO conducted surveys and focus groups engaging East Asian community members across Ontario. Delving into healthcare disparities within the East Asian community, our findings highlighted critical issues such as widespread discrimination based on race and immigration status, insufficient community physical/mental health knowledge, and a lack of community engagement within healthcare.

A key finding across all groups was that community-based interventions are key to reducing healthcare barriers in racialized communities. Community leaders, grassroots organizations, faith-based groups, and local advocacy groups must drive these solutions.
