Organizing with Chinese Canadian (im)migrants for justice, dignity, and civic power.

We are the Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter. We bring Chinese low-income and working-class workers, seniors, youth, and (im)migrants together through organizing, education, advocacy, and community care.
我们是全加华人协进会多伦多分会。我们通过社区组织、教育、倡导和社区互助，把低收入工人阶级群体、工人、长者、青年和移民凝聚在一起。
CCNCTO is not a service provider. Instead, we use programming and leadership development to enhance community capacity to address injustice.

WHO WE ORGANIZE WITH 我们联合的对象
We organize with precarious and marginalized Chinese communities across the GTA.
CCNCTO organizes precarious and marginalized Chinese communities across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with a particular focus on Chinese working-class and migrant communities in Scarborough. We organize these demographics to advance racial, social, economic, and immigration justice.

Grassroot
Organizing
We create programs rooted in needs of the Chinese Canadians in the GTA, while building grassroots membership, leadership and relationships with local organizations

We challenge negative stereotypes and racism through media monitoring, public education, and partnerships with aligned organizations.

We organise meetings and encourage Chinese Canadians to engage in public decision making and build coalitions with other social justice movements and organisations.

We strengthen cultural heritage and build community solidarity through events, festivals, and exhibitions, with a monthly newsletter keeping everyone updated.

HISTORY 历史
Rooted in a national fight against anti-Chinese racism.
The Chinese Canadian National Council was formed in 1980, organizing with Chinese Canadians nationally to demand head tax redress and to protest the irresponsible journalism of the CTV W5 program “Campus Giveaway”, which alleged that “foreigners” (Chinese Canadians) were taking away legitimate places from non-Chinese-Canadians in universities. Successful organizing in the Chinese Canadian community around this incident led to a public apology from CTV. The Toronto Chapter of CCNC grew directly out of the Toronto Ad Hoc Committee Against W5. Since then, CCNCTO has focused on local and grassroots advocacy and action.
Today, CCNCTO operates individually, with no communication or relation to other “chapters” under the CCNC umbrella.
