Chi-Cheng Wat
Chi-Cheng came to Canada in the early 2010s to attend graduate school at the University of Toronto. One of her research projects was on how the intersection of government policies, culture, gender expectations, and ethnic economy impacted the working and living conditions of home care workers in North America. After receiving her Master’s degree in Sociology, Chi- Cheng soon found herself, like many newcomers in this country, working in a precarious, low-waged sector. She was determined to improve the working conditions at her workplace and organized the first union drive in the history of UNIQLO, a multinational retail giant. Chi-Cheng wants to bring her organizing and research experiences to CCNCTO, to work with and encourage our community members to fight for a more just and fairer society in which everyone not only survives but thrives.
