Keefer Wong

KEEFER WONG is a PhD candidate in the Sociology Department at York University. As a graduate associate at York Centre for Asian Research, his research intersects race and ethnicity, political sociology, knowledge production, Canada, China, and the Canadian-born Chinese. Keefer is currently working on his dissertation examining anti-Asian racism and the nuances of internalized racism with Canadian-born Chinese in the GTA. He has been in collaboration with CCNCTO on numerous research projects for tackling anti-Chinese racism around the GTA. Being part of the CCNCTO board, Keefer strives to bridge the disconnect of being an ivory tower academic and being grounded as part of the community in pushing for the interests of Chinese and other similarly marginalized individuals around the GTA. After attending many anti-Asian and Chinese racism workshops organized by CCNCTO, Keefer will continue to push for the inclusive civic participation of the Chinese around the GTA, including Canadian-born Chinese! As a Canadian-born Chinese himself, Keefer hopes other CBCs join together in solidarity for building intergenerational capacity and immigrant justice amongst the broader Chinese community.
