Yahan Yang, (she/her) is a PhD student at the University of Toronto and a registered social worker and a dedicated researcher and advocate specializing in anti-oppressive community practice and research, with a particular focus on anti-Asian racism. Her current PhD research explores how language plays a role in the ethnic-racial socialization process of Asian bilingual families and how Asian resist systemic invisibility and silencing through connection.

Before starting her doctoral studies, Yahan Yang (she/her) spent four years working as policy and research consultant at two international non-profit organizations in Asia, focusing on projects that advanced social justice and community empowerment. She is currently a research assistant for several initiatives, including My Script, My Voice (MSMV), the Asian Parent Participatory Action (APPA) project, the Beyond “Canadian Experience” project, and the Japanese Canadian Arts and Activism Project (JCAAP). Yahan also contributes to research teams studying the impact of COVID-19 on awareness of anti-Asian racism and the resilience of immigrant women using digital technology to address intimate partner violence (IPV).

In addition to her research work, Yahan is an active member of the FIFSW PhD Student Association (PhDSA) and the Canadian Social Work Doctoral Student Network (CSWDSN). She currently chairs the organization of the FIFSW PhD Symposium 2024 and the CSWDSN Annual Conference 2025, supporting opportunities for more racialized and international doctoral student collaboration, learning, and leadership.

杨雅涵(she/her)是一名多伦多大学在读博士,注册社会工作者,也是一位致力于反压迫社区实践与研究的博士生和倡导者,其研究聚焦反亚裔种族主义。雅涵目前的博士研究探讨语言在亚裔双语家庭族裔/种族社会化过程中的作用,以及亚裔如何通过连结来抵抗体制性“隐形”与噤声。在攻读博士学位之前,杨雅涵曾在亚洲的两家国际非营利组织担任政策与研究顾问,四年来专注于推动社会正义与社区赋权的项目。

她目前是多个研究项目的项目协调者/助理研究员,包括“My Script, My Voice (MSMV)”、亚裔家长参与式行动研究项目(Asian Parent Participatory Action, APPA)、“超越‘加拿大经验’”项目(Beyond “Canadian Experience”)、以及“日裔加拿大人艺术与行动项目”(Japanese Canadian Arts and Activism Project, JCAAP)。

此外,杨雅涵也参与了其他研究团队,研究包括新冠疫情如何提升人们对反亚裔种族主义的认知,以及移民女性如何运用数码科技应对亲密伴侣暴力(IPV)等议题。

在研究工作之外,杨雅涵也是FIFSW博士生协会(PhDSA)和加拿大社会工作博士生网络(CSWDSN)的积极成员。她目前担任2024年FIFSW博士生论坛与2025年CSWDSN年度会议负责人,致力于为更多少数族裔及国际生提供合作、学习与领导力发展的平台。
